My son Roland has been obsessed with Concords and jumbo jets because of Flying Heavy Metal, a Discovery UK documentary presented by Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden:

The documentary covers the brief history of commercial flight. Bruce, himself a commercial airline pilot, is an articulate and engaging presenter. His enthusiasm for the subject matter is infectious. Luckily for us, the Museum of Flight in Seattle has a Concord on display. It’s the only one in United States! The show provided major incentive to get an annual membership at the museum. Now we go at least once a month. It’s crazy. We listen to Maiden’s Aces High on our way down to the museum, of course. Roland sings along to the chorus:

“RUUUUUN! Liiiiive tooo FWAAAAIII!”

I related this fact to Bruce through his radio show on BBC6. Seriously, how many hats does this man wear? Anyhow, he graciously acknowledged my E-mail on the show and gave Roland the birthday shout-out I’d asked for. That was awesome.

Since Roland demands to watch Flying Heavy Metal on a daily basis, I see a lot of Bruce. I listen to his radio show every Friday. I listen to Iron Maiden like I’ve always done (since the days before Roland). There’s a lot of Bruce in my life already. So, imagine my surprise when he showed up unexpectedly on Monty Python’s Almost The Truth.

GOD DAMN, THIS MAN IS EVERYWHERE!!! Here he is at the New York premiere:

For more of Bruce doing what he does best, I recommend the concert/documentary Flight 666. I hope to fly on Ed Force One with my boy someday. Yes. Someday.

While walking around Seattle Center this weekend, my husband spotted the 70’s-anime robot-hero Grendizer at the Fun Forest Amusement Park.

How long has the ride been here?! This reminds me of another 70’s-anime robot sighting:

Mazinger Z in International District. This one is on the connecting bridge from the metro station to 4th Avenue South.
